Serenity

There are so many days that I find myself repeating the Serenity Prayer. That is when I need to take a pause and be in the present and admire a gift that is sitting right under my nose.

Free day

How nice to have a day completely free. The world's your oyster. And a rainy one at that. I cancelled my hike because it was pouring. An hour later it was clear enough to go.

Sketchy directions were enough to send me on a search for an old unmaintained trail. Easy enough to follow. Didn't see a soul. Just gorgeous aspen, some robins and a flicker, and beautiful cascades.

Home to light the fire, bake some banana bread, defrost the freezer (yes, the cabin and everything in it is old). But the wine is still cold. And I will just have to eat the melting ice cream with the banana bread.

Seasons

The signs of the changing season. Hummingbirds are greedy at the feeder knowing that they will be moving on in a day or two. Willows along the North St Vrain aren't as full as they were in midsummer. My tomatoes are finally ripe and are perfect with the basil that has been waiting for them.

Unique

Where did this little creature come from? The white stripe on his tail caught my eye on the distant pine tree. He was unafraid as I got closer and closer and snapped more photos. He was a regular squirrel, but with markings that looked more like a house cat. The white stripe down his nose was leaning to one side. Maybe the other squirrels think he is odd, but to me he was perfect - another unique individual.

Spring

Sitting on a rock overlooking the small canyon. My first sand lily of the season.

Patterns

Winter highlights the geometry around us. Leaves no longer hide the structure of a tree. The low angle of the sun creates new designs and melts the snow in curious patterns.
